Farm Ventures is an aquaculture and hydroponics design collaborative founded in 1980. It grew out of fish farming and hydroponic greenhouse developments of Mark Howland; who after selling off his interests in those operations, realized there was a need for a design consultant for this field. Thus Farm Ventures was born, and coupled with ERC's environmental assessment abilities; Farm Ventures can offer one complete concept development for farming projects of this nature. We have experience with over 1000 unusual crops, offer full environmental audits of the site to insure crop viability, and utilize almost 20 years of experience to design an operation for the crop of choice. We are recognized as one of the leaders in innovative stormwater designs and management. Two of our products for runoff control are the Howland Swale and the Catch Basin Guard.

The Howland Swale is the first attempt in many years to use biological controls in controlling and cleaning stormwater generated runoff waters.

Catch Basin Guard

When you have to protect new installed catch basins from the silt and mud flowing off bare slopes and construction activities over your new roadway - you now have two choices ! One, you can gather a dozen or so hay bales, some plastic silt fence, and stakes and create a messy, physical barrier to those mud and silt flows. Or you can buy a re-useable CATCH BASIN GUARD ! With a lot less effort, and certainly less messy, CATCH BASIN GUARD provides a quick and easy way to safeguard new catch basins from exposed slopes. Costs are comparable to erecting a time-consuming haybale dam, but CBG is re-useable, more aesthetic, with a quick install period. BioFence Jr. - Our first level of wetlands protection ! BioFence Jr. is a smaller version of our famous BioFence - biodegradable siltation fencing. Constructed with USA made materials, BioFence JR. is designed to completely encircle a catch basin. Four foot staking and ease of installation makes this choice a snap ! For unpaved situations.

BioBerms- our newest product for stormwater management. BioBerm (singular)is a single unit designed for curb manholes. BioBerms (plural) are 4 pak units designed to encircle a catch basin. Works both on paved and unpaved situations.

As you can tell from our other pages, BioFence and EcoFence are our primary products in this field. However, we do carry the Curlex erosion blanket line as an authorized suppier. Contact us for details on these items.

As well, we have our new SEED-GEL TECHNOLOGY where we can take any of these seeds or mixes, encased them into a nutrient-enriched and temperature-release gel which can be sprayed onto erosion control blankets.
